Everyone who participated in the history of Company B, Camp Alamo, and the various detachments can help us collect information on the other soldiers who served and who are not yet located.
Here is a suggested procedure that you can use to help us all.
1) Go to the web site [ www.usasa.us] and make sure all your information is correct.
2) Make a list of any soldiers not listed that were in Company B with you.
3) Review your memorabilia and old address books to determine if you have information on those soldiers missing from the web site roster.
4) If you have old Army orders, the full names of soldiers you served with are on those orders.
5) It helps to have the first 3 digits of the Social Security Numbers from those orders that were used as our ID numbers [ ATTACHED at end --those first 3 digits tell you the HOME State where the SSN was issued and give you a place to start the search]. NOTE-à for personal privacy and to protect identities – do NOT publish those SSNs.
6) If you can come up with home of record, home cities, or states, they are most helpful in doing white pages searches. If you can remember the spouse’s name, that is extremely helpful because a lot of listings are by first name of husband and wife.
7) There are some easy-to access web sites to start any computer search:
Click here for PEOPLE SEARCH ENGINE
This site will sometimes give you the age of the person you are searching for and even allows you to post a message. However, the posting only works if they are looking for it. Also, I have had most success by starting with the first [ if you get back multiple ] listing.
Click here for USA PEOPLE SEARCH
This site is actually the front of a commercial genealogy search service. However, it is useful in that it will limit searches if a middle initial is included, unlike other search sites. Also, all of the search results are displayed in one table. Major useful columns are AGE, CITY, STATE, & POSSIBLE RELATIVES. The most recent city & state are in the top (listed first) of the associated cells. The relatives are linked to their pages and could be contacted for those “dead end” searches. Unfortunately, this site will not provide phone number or email without a charge. The age/city/state info can be used to narrow your search on www.whitepages.com or www.people.yahoo.com.
Click here for YAHOO! PEOPLE SEARCH
This is another alternative that may be a little more user friendly and comprehensive than whitepages.com while offering more possibilities. You can also search for a person’s yahoo email ID on this site.
An important note is that often times you will need to use information from multiple search sites to hone in on the right contact, or at least limit the possibles. For instance, one site may display the wrong phone # but it may be available somewhere else.
8) When you successfully find or make contact with a person ---
9) If your search is unsuccessful, we also need to record that data. So, in the event of a dead-end, please complete & date FORM B to the web site stating all that you explored so that we do NOT reinvent the wheel. An example would be…” Jan 13, 2007 I looked for XXX by searching.. .. [ state the method –>>> phone search, ZABA, SSN, former address, etc] and could not find him.”
We do not wish to waste time replicating failed efforts.
